Tsunami Studios

Dean McDonald is the owner of Tsunami Studios and has been in the television industry since 1998 producing a range of programming for SABC, E-TV, M-Net and DSTV.
With our focus being on documentary and sport it was a natural progression to combine the two and produce exclusive fishing DVD’s for the discerning viewer.

Dean is the cameraman and has over 15 years of experience in all spheres of international television filming, having worked on documentaries for Discovery Channel, News for Australia and Europe, Sport for a host of broadcasters and corporate productions for many large companies including General Motors.

A major advantage our cameraman has over others who film fishing for television and DVD’s, is that he has been an avid fisherman for the past 20 years.

This gives him an invaluable insight into the sport and allows him to capture action that even most trained eyes will miss.

When filming fishing it is imperative that the cameraman capture the casting action and fish strike so that the viewer can study the presenter’s technique, otherwise it’s just a lot of rods bending and fish being released.

You also can’t fake shots, don’t think that the viewer won’t notice when you have set up a strike and any fisherman will know that you can’t fake that initial excitement when a fish strikes.

Our productions are not produced from a single trip and slapped together; they are the end product of hundreds of hours of raw footage from shot at many locations around South Africa and Africa.

Only the finest footage is selected for the final product.

The true secret of a successful video lies in the editing, if you have a passion for fishing it’s going to come across in the final product.

The editing process is very time consuming and to produce a high quality 2 hours of DVD can take an entire month of editing.

From your script writing to flatter the footage, selection of voice over artist compliment the visuals, choice of music to create the various moods and visual editing effects to tie the different shots in your story together, it is a piece of visual art that the editor moulds and shapes over time.

The end product can take over 2 months to produce from concept to final master.
